| Re-Entry To Superbikes - A New Challenge
Thankfully for all involved at GSE, their absence was short lived and towards the end of the 2004 season, Darrell gave Colin the go ahead to re assemble the race team.
"With the break for the 2004 season, many may have thought that little was going on with GSE Racing", Darrell explained. "Under the surface, however, fevered activity was continuing and we were able to secure negotiations with Ducati to launch our comeback in earnest for 2005. I was delighted to give Colin the thumbs up for the new season and am personally excited at the prospect of seeing two GSE riders back on the track".
Colin was equally pleased when he was instructed to revive the team: "During the 2004 season, we kept a skeletal team in place behind the scenes to keep things ticking over at the workshop. However, when Darrell gave me the all clear, we suddenly had to step things up to prepare for the new season".
Activity at the workshop and across GSE Racing went into over drive as the team strived to prepare themselves for a successful comeback season.
"Both Darrell and myself were fully committed to making a big splash on our return to the grid. We made a conscious decision to return to British Superbikes in order to win back the title we'd previously secured in 1999 and 2000 but in order to do so there was plenty of work to be done".
"To resurrect the team and ensure we were in the best possible condition, the team needed as much time out on the track. Although unusual for a team to be testing so early, it was the only way to ensure that we were 100% ready," affirms Colin. |
