Becoming The Prominent British Team In Superbikes - Back To Back Titles

In 1999, the missing piece in the jigsaw fell into place and Darrell's personal dream started coming to fruition. To complete the team's emergence from middle ranked runners to challenging for the title at the front of the grid, an experienced and accomplished team leader was required.

"I knew that the introduction of an organised team manager was necessary if we wanted to be challenging the more established teams," says Darrell. "I needed someone to come in and run a tight ship and my number one choice was Colin Wright. I'd met him in 1991 at Kawasaki and was immediately impressed with the skills he showed there".

Colin came on board in time for GSE's assault on the 1999 Championship, a quest which was to ultimately prove successful. The team held on to Troy Bayliss' services and partnered him with Neil Hodgson, the pair proving a formidable duo. Bayliss took six race wins, 14 podiums and seven pole positions as GSE Racing swept all before them to take the Superbike Championship.

And the dream didn't end there- with GSE repeating the feat a year later. This time Neil Hodgson stormed to the title with the able support of Niall Mackenzie. GSE Racing had established themselves as the best Superbike team in Britain and it was time to test themselves in the international arena.
